Black Sails Season 2 Ep. 5, Were you as surprised as me??

Spoilers ahead if you haven't watched the show at all, or this episode DON'T READ THIS! Watch the show from the beginning, start with Season 1. =)

The title of my blog post says it all in one word "surprised". I was left very surprised after viewing this episode.
I recently started watching this show after my best friend suggested it. And like I do when I find a great show, I binged. I watched it non stop until I was completely caught up. In fact like I posted on my Facebook page, I have a new favorite pirate captain (no offense to Captain Jack Sparrow, or Captain Hook from OUAT) and his name is Captain Charles Vane. I mean, really, who doesn't like a mysterious, bad boy, but sweet, sexy pirate captain??
But anyways back to the episode. I don't do really detailed descriptions of the episodes, and I don't write about every single episode of shows that I like. It's mostly the episodes that catch my eye, and surprise me.
I was surprised 2-3 times in this episode. First time, when Eleanor Guthrie runs back to Charles Vane, and they "get together". I'm so confused by this woman. Hey Eleanor, either you want him, or you don't, he obviously cares about you. If you don't send him my way. ;)
Next surprise came when Flint chose to fire upon the fort. That decision actually came at the end of episode 4 but I was still surprised he went through with it. Mr. Scott made such a good argument at the end of that episode, I thought for sure Flint would change his mind.
But then with the 3rd surprise I found out why he didn't.
I didn't really understand why they were doing all the flash backs still in this episode, but later I was glad they did.
I expected the love affair between Flint and Mrs. Hamilton, but I wasn't expecting the love affair between Mr. Hamilton and Flint.
That left me staring at the TV with a  =O what just happened look. But if that is what makes Flint happy, I'm all for it. Question, was I the only one surprised?? I did notice Flint didn't act to happy while he was getting it on with Ms. Barlowe (A.K.A Mrs. Hamilton). But it just didn't dawn on me then, that he actually loved Thomas Hamilton.
So maybe he's doing this whole thing about Nassau as vengeance for Thomas? To make sure Thomas's dream lives on, and that it gets done??
And again Eleanor confuses me, because last I saw her she was talking with her dad about no longer exporting stolen goods. So what does that mean for the pirates??
And last time I seen my man Mr. Charles Vane he looked like he was trying to chop off Flint's head. I really thought he was going to for a minute there.
And we can't forget Ann and Jack. Poor Ann, she had to have seen that coming with her not being wanted on the new ship Max helped put together. Think about it, according to Jack Sparrow's crew it's bad luck to have a woman on board anyways. I don't know if that's the way it is in Black Sails though. Guess we'll have to wait and see if they get into that. Ann is a very mysterious woman, and now that I know she was an actual pirate, I'm probably gonna look her up and see how her life really went.
Anyways this is such a great show. I'm so glad I was introduced to it, and can't wait to see what will happen next.

The DUFF, is it worth seeing?

Yesterday I was setting at my computer, and on Facebook I came upon a page for "The DUFF", which I had just seen the night it came out. Some of the comments that were posted were pretty crazy. A few examples include something like the main actress being to old to play a high school student, and another about having seen this kind of movie before with "She's all That".
I agree that we have seen this kind of movie before, examples include " She's all That", "Drive me Crazy", "The Princess Dairies", "The Breakfast Club", "Love Don't Cost a Thing", "Clueless" and even "Pretty Woman". All these movies include someone being made over, in some way. But no one has actually said that there was an actual name for these people. But if you think about it there has been names given, "Basket case" and "Nerd", just to name a few. So I don't really think that the movies I listed are similar to "The DUFF". Their story lines, maybe so. But in the end of "The DUFF" Bianca doesn't really get made over as far as clothes and make up, it's more like she gets a reality check, and starts feeling comfortable with being "The DUFF". So maybe there is something in common with all the movies I listed. Don't all the women or men that get made over end up feeling better about themselves, and more comfortable in their own skin?? Hollywood is always making a new version of older movies, or story lines, so I don't think that's ever going to change.
As far as the actress playing Bianca looking much older than the other actresses. It's true she is older. Bella Thorne who plays the most popular girl in school, who has a bad attitude is only 17-18ish. Mae Whitman who plays Bianca is 26 years old.
I knew the actress was older, because I remembered seeing her in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", and Bella Thorne was on Disney when this came out. But when I was setting in the theater watching the movie, I didn't pick out her features one by one, and say "OMG she has wrinkles, and she's suppose to be a high school student!". I didn't even notice anything like that. I think comparing her to other girls who have done a similar role, she was awesome.
So is this movie worth seeing? I think it's a cute teen movie. I'm 30, and both me and my husband enjoyed it. If you're tired of this type of story line maybe it's not for you. I personally loved movies like "She's all That" and "Ten Things I Hate About You". They were awesome. Now if you're a parent, and your child is in middle school or younger, this movie does have some perverted things in it. There's a lot of talking about sex, and some bad things happening to a manikin. The movie is funny, but I wouldn't say it's hilarious. Hope this information helps you make your decision about seeing it!

It is where I grabbed this picture of Mae Whitman as Bianca.

Spring Break is around the corner! Where are you headed??

Hey all!! I know I haven't written anything in a while, but I've been pretty busy dealing with things at home. My husband was laid off for about two weeks, so we had a financial situation we were going through. But luckily he's back at work now, and has been for a couple weeks.
All I've been thinking about for the past few months is going to Florida for Spring Break. We booked our hotel, we have the money now, so I've been pretty excited. But, then I started thinking about stuff I haven't done yet. There's places in Kentucky I haven't been to in years, my kids haven't seen them yet, also I've been wanting to go to a concert badly. The last concert I went to was a local music festival years ago, the first one actually, with Jason Aldean headlining. I loved it, but I had to go by myself, because my husband worked with a carnival. There's also Disney on Ice this month, which my kids have never seen, but have always wanted to go. So I think I've decided that Florida can wait until maybe Fall Break. That way we have more time to save up money for our trip, and we can go to a few smaller things before our trip without worrying about using our Florida money.
I've already picked out a concert. I'd like to see Kacey Musgraves in Louisville. The tickets are a great price, and she's a great country music artist, so why not. =) There's also a couple local festivals that I'd like to go to. Last year they had Vince Gill at one of them.
With so much that my kids haven't experienced, I figured Florida, which they have seen, can wait till another time.
So what are you doing for your Spring Break?
Heading to a beach? Going camping? Whatever it is you're doing, I hope you and your friends or family have a great time, and enjoy every minute of it!!
